Dance for All Ages as The Days Project Visits Åland
As part of the Nordic Institute on Åland's 40th anniversary, the internationally acclaimed The Days Project is visiting Åland to perform the production The Days. The performance has toured around the world with the message that dance is for everyone regardless of age, and that every person has something unique to contribute on stage.
The Days is a dance production and workshop program created in collaboration between Finnish artists Maria Nurmela and Ville Oinonen and English choreographer Theo Clinkard. Since its premiere in Finland in 2018, they have toured to Russia, Scotland, Romania, and Switzerland, among other places. In 2022, the tour also reached the United Kingdom and Canada within the framework of the Nordic cultural exchange program Nordic Bridges.
At each location The Days Project visits, workshops in contemporary dance are held for seniors and young people. From these workshops, two participants are then selected to perform in The Days production. On Åland, the workshops are organized in collaboration with Folkhälsan on Åland, among others, and local seniors and young people will also perform on stage together with The Days on November 11. This part of the production has proven to be tremendously enriching both artistically and socially, and offers both older and younger people a valuable opportunity for creative expression, community, and engagement.
The tour is carried out in collaboration with the Regional Dance Centre in Western Finland with support from the Swedish Culture Fund, the Eugène, Elisabeth and Birgit Nygrén Foundation, and the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
